Which credentials can I aim for in Canada?

Does a study permit lead to permanent residence?
Often, but not automatically. After an eligible program, you may apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) if you meet IRCC's current conditions, including a minimum language level. The Canadian experience you gain can then count for Express Entry or a provincial program. For French-speaking students, the Francophone Minority Communities Student Pilot offers another route, subject to conditions.
Can I bring my family?
It depends on the program. Since 2025, the spousal open work permit is mainly limited to spouses of students in a master's program of at least 16 months, a doctoral program or certain professional programs; it is generally no longer available during a bachelor's degree. Your minor children can in principle accompany you and attend school. We check your situation before any application.
